To lubricate the bicycle chain you don’t need to be an expert mechanic but you need to follow some very simple steps that will lead us to have an excellent result.
How to lubricate the bicycle chain
- Place the bicycle on a stand for a better view when lubricating the chain
- Degrease the chain with a special cleaner such as Pulifren, excellent for cleaning the disc brakes of your bicycle and equally valid for degreasing the chain.
- Use a special tool to clean the chain, or if you don’t have a specific tool, you can use a toothbrush with hard bristles.
- Choose a specific chain lube, but watch out for bad habits. Very often alternative products that we have at home are used and which are mistakenly mistaken as lubricants but are actually degreasers. Therefore, read the instructions for use very carefully. It is also recommended to use a ptfe-based lubricant such as our Lubricat.
- Lubricate the chain at the bottom, avoiding contaminating the carbon fiber frame. Use a rag to avoid dripping the product on the floor or on the bicycle tyre.
- Wipe the chain with a rag, wiping off any excess lubricant.
- Rotate the pedals of the bicycle by operating the gearbox to also lubricate the rear gears and the crankset.
- Wipe off excess lubricant once more.
Carrying out periodic maintenance of the chain is very useful to avoid premature wear. Furthermore, a well-lubricated bicycle chain can help in those “marginal gains” so dear to professional teams, all to the benefit of the athlete’s performance.
