Noisy bike? Here are the possible causes and remedies

In the previous article we talked about what could be the possible causes of noise on a bicycle. In particular we focused on the following parts of the bicycle: Frame, Saddle and Handlebar.

In this second appointment we will consider:

  • Wheels
  • Brakes
  • Transmission
  • Central movement.
  • Pedals
  • Wheels and Brakes

After verifying the correct centering of the wheel and the possible friction against the brakes, our attention will focus on the quick release or the through axle.

The first check will be done by disassembling the piece, then we will clean it properly with a non-aggressive product such as our Super cleaner. Once clean and dry we just have to lubricate using a spray lubricant such as Special Lube based on ptfe.

Transmission

Maybe the “noisy” part even when everything is perfect. Where there is friction between the components of a bicycle there is necessarily a background noise. Noise is communication, and it tells us that something is progressing perfectly or otherwise, not.

The moving parts have a certain wear, and to limit it over time and extend their life they must be taken care of. A great way to preserve their integrity is washing and lubricating them. Also in this case two important elements are the protagonists: Lube 1 and Pulisuper. The second to clean the dirt and the first to lubricate thoroughly.

Central movement

Once the bicycle has been placed on a stand, you have to turn the pedals. If you hear strange noises then we have a problem that can certainly be solved.

The bottom bracket is made up of several components, including bearings, housings and the central axle. The bearings are located within the housings of the bicycle frame and support the central axle, which in turn is connected to the crankset and cranks. Numerous components that can wear out over time and cause annoying noises.

A further test consists in moving the two cranks of the bicycle, if there is play we will have to replace the bottom bracket with a new one.

Pedals

Often the pedal is the part of the bicycle that we least consider. If we pay attention to the component, we will notice how it is really exploited and treated badly. Water, mud, dust and shocks due to the hooking of the shoe in the pedal seat mean that the deterioration of the same can be very rapid compared to other components. Not only that, the pin that holds the entire pedal can rust over time. A check that checks the integrity of the pedal can be done through disassembly; which could get complicated if it hasn’t been done for a long time. In this specific case the unlocking product par excellence is Pk.

Once disassembled, check everything for possible noises, lubricate the moving parts and assemble on the crank.
